Facebook Supports Small Business through COVID-19 Outbreak

When Facebook’s newly launched Business Resource Hub saw a spike in traffic at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we knew America’s small businesses needed help. We asked small businesses across the country what they needed most in this time of crisis and learned that the most immediate and valuable thing we can provide was financial assistance and tools to make the changing landscape easier to navigate online. 

That’s why in March we made a $100 million global commitment in cash grants and ad credits to support small businesses, helping over 10,000 small businesses in the United States alone. In coordination with our trusted U.S. partner Ureeka, Facebook placed a special emphasis on prioritizing 50% of grants to eligible minority and women-owned businesses due to the disproportionate negative impact that COVID-19 will have on these businesses, their employees, and the communities that they serve. 

Facebook also launched other initiatives to help all small businesses through this crisis, including: 

Gift Cards: Facebook introduced a place for people to discover digital gift cards for their favorite local U.S. restaurants and businesses. Businesses can create digital gift cards by visiting facebook.com/business/boost/gift-cards so their customers can find and support your business.

Fundraising: Individuals and nonprofits have used Facebook for fundraising since 2013. Now business owners can create personal fundraisers on Facebook to support their businesses using Facebook Fundraising Tools

Temporary Service Changes: We are enabling businesses with the ability to announce temporary service changes on their Facebook Pages. If people search for a local business on Facebook, they can easily see what’s available to them, like pickup and delivery only, or a temporary business closure since businesses may have to change their service hours quickly. 

Industry Specific Guides: In our Small Business Resource Hub, a business can get industry-specific tips on how it can adapt and respond to the changing environment. The guides provide these small businesses not only with a resource for how to respond to COVID-19, but also examples of how they can adapt and respond. The guides cover all types of industries such as restaurants and cafés, retail, fitness and recreation centers, and even media and publishers. 

Facebook will remain close to the millions of small businesses that use our services to gain exposure, grow, and thrive. We will continue to listen to them in the coming weeks and months as the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak continue to disrupt our economy. We are determined to help and we know the road ahead will require a lot more from all of us.
